Explosion and Fire in Caballito: Authorities Demand Report

The Government of the City of Buenos Aires has demanded that the electricity provider Edesur and the gas network contractor Argencobra SA provide information within 24 hours about the origin of an explosion and fire in the Caballito neighborhood. They must also report on the current situation and the causes of the gas leak and fire that occurred this afternoon, affecting a building located at 300 Riglos Street, as well as nearby homes and businesses. The incident also left two injured, one with serious burns. The City's Firefighters worked for three hours to control the fire caused by a gas leak. It occurred when Edesur operators were working on an electrical emergency when a Metrogas pipe ruptured. Personnel from Metrogas then capped one end of the pipe, which allowed the flames to be contained, and the main valve was closed shortly after 9 PM. Head of Government Jorge Macri was at the site supervising the operation alongside Chief of Cabinet Gabriel Sánchez Zinny; Fire Chief Diego Pablo Coria, head of the City's Fire Department Zone 2; and Director of SAME Alberto Crescenti.
